Spring Break and A Breakout

You know what they say about the best laid plans, they often go awry. I had planned the first adventure of 2017 to see some dear friends who moved to Kentucky last year. It was so cute because Alex kept saying we were going to Tucky!

We were set to leave Friday morning and Thursday night Daryl said he had some itchy bug bites. I looked and there were a few on his legs and a few on his arms. My first thought was OMG, do we have fleas?!

I inspected the dog and the house and decided he must have gotten into something outside. I slept well on Thursday night.

Friday morning I got up and jumped in the shower, this usually wakes everyone up and soon I have an audience. If you could see the size of our bathroom you would know how hilarious this is. Me in the shower and Daryl, Alex and Purl all just hanging out. LOL

Daryl comes in and Alex says, "moooom, look at Daryl." That is when I see my poor baby is covered in hives. There were over his whole body. I didn't want to react so I calmly got them breakfast, sat them in front of a movie and waited till eight to call the doctor. We got in at 9:30 and Daryl was having a very bad reaction to some medicine he has been taking for a week.

With steroids to clear up the hives in hand I was still considering making the trip. The boys were really hopeful we could still go. Then, in the car, Daryl started to throw up. That was that, we were staying home. Probably for the best, he had a fever most of the day and couldn't keep much down. Thankfully, those symptoms were gone on Saturday and we just had to deal with the rash.

On Monday, he was all better and we decided to go ahead and stay at the hotel we had booked at Lake of the Ozarks for the way home from Tucky. Our room faced a sand beach and there was an indoor water park. It was a good, quick trip!

The funniest thing to me was how obvious it is that my boys don't leave Kansas much. When we were about an hour from our destination the highway got very hilly and windy. The boys started laughing and giggling, and Daryl said "Alex put your hands up in the air like a roller coaster!"
Daryl then said, "Mom this road is awesome, and we don't even have to pay for the ride!"
I was laughing at them so hard I had tears in my eyes. Then I completely lost it when I heard this!
Daryl- "These hills make my tummy feel funny!"
Alex-"It makes my wiener feel funny!"
(Everyone in the car bursting out laughing)
Poor Baby trying to sleep it off.

Right outside our room at Lake of the Ozarks

The boys loved the lazy river because they could
both touch the bottom!

On the way home we stopped at Legends!

All smiles post swim! Taking kids on a trip by yourself
is no joke. But I did it, and it was a success!

Waiting Game

I wasn't going to post until I was officially a member of the first wives club, but my divorce decree is probably hanging out on the Judge's desk right now. Kelly and I agreed on everything last week and I'm pretty sure it went to the judge on Monday.

Maybe I will feel different when it is all over but at this moment I just want to be done. Just another thing that needs to be crossed off of the to do list.

I'm in very good spirits, if it was warmer outside I would be even happier! Even the boys are ready for warmer weather and new adventures. They have spring break next week so I hope to post lots of pictures of them next time.

Daryl is doing very good with his headgear. Most nights he leaves it on all night. I don't know how he gets it off in the middle of the night, but he can do it. We are starting to find the little rubber bands everywhere. We will all be in the kitchen and wonder, how did that get there? His headgear doesn't leave his bedroom!

Alex is a proud little peacock these days with his new shoes. I had no idea his Thomas the Train sneakers were falling apart until he showed me one night. We all loaded up in the car and went to Target. Alex was looking at some all black shoes and Daryl found a pair with red on them in Alex's size. He said, "Alex look at these, they have your favorite color on them!" So of course Alex had to have them.

I love it when they are sweet with each other, it is rare, but amazing.
New Shoe Day!
Sunday morning math! Don't get too excited
he watches tutoring videos on Youtube
then copies the equations. :-) Crazy Kid!

Finishing Stuff in March!

Having a bunch of projects going at once stresses me out. So, I have decided to dedicate March 2017 to finishing stuff! So far this is the list:

Knitted Coffee Cup Sleeve (Been knitting since Dec.)

Wall Hanging for Living Room (Started in January)

The Book on my nightstand (Think I also started this in January)

That list doesn't seem so bad! This is not all of the works in project in my house but that wouldn't be realistic for one month.

I did finished my T-Shirt Quilt top in February and I can't wait to get it back from the Quilter, and on my bed! I started that project in 2006 or 2007! Getting that off the to do list has really motivated me to work on things I already have in my house and not purchasing new project supplies. Wish me luck!

I have a very large blank wall in the house. So I'm making a very large
wall hanging to put there. :-) All scraps from other sewing projects.
Pesky little coffee cup sleeve.

This was my  bed last night, because the wind was scary. I should
have taken a picture of the whole bed so you could see the sliver I sleep on!

Running In Circles

I knew that my 2017 goals would be challenging. So far I'm not keeping pace if you divide the goals by 12 and look at what I have been doing for the first two months of the year. I need to amp up my reading time and my running miles. I am saving about as much money as I had anticipated, so that is a win. I have trips planned so that goal is also making progress.

So it seems that the goals I'm having trouble with are the ones I used to do in my free time. I now only have free time every other weekend. That is ok for reading, not so good for running.

Tuesday, it was very nice when I picked the boys up from school. I love to take them to our neighborhood park to play outside so I decided to put on my running shoes and run around the park! It's not a bad idea, it would be ideal if the park was a little bigger. I was literally running in circles with the boys playing in the middle. Two laps around the park is a little over a quarter mile. I ran 1.5 miles before the boys got bored. Then I took my running to them and we played tag for another half mile!

It wasn't a failed experiment, and something I will do again. It just won't be for very many miles. I think I would get dizzy going my normal three miles running around that park! My next experiment might be putting both boys on bikes and running while they ride. Daryl was good at that last year, Alex is probably still too young, but we will give it a shot.

Today Daryl had his mouthpiece put in. It is permanent so it won't come out until they are done widening his upper jaw. I have a picture of him wearing his head gear. It is too embarrassing to put on the internet, that means something coming from me! He is talking funny right now and not feeling any pain. The doctor let us know he will be sore in the mornings after wearing the head gear. He also got the long list of foods he can't eat right now. No more gum, nuts, chewy candies or beef jerky! He also has to cut hard foods before he eats them. Using his teeth to snap carrots apart or apples is a no no right now. He can chew hard foods he just can't use his teeth to snap/tear them apart. Lord help us get to May without breaking this thing out of his mouth!

How I keep Alex busy during a meeting!
