Traveling Fools

For Easter Daryl and Grandma headed to South Dakota! It was a long trip but it sounds like he had a blast hanging out with his South Dakota cousins. Much to Daryl's wishes Alex stayed home and had a Dad/Alex day and a Alex/Mom day. Daryl convinced Alex that they "needed a break." Crazy kid!

Alex had a quite weekend at home and just so Daryl can read them someday, he missed Daryl everyday. He even bought him a toy with his own money. Alex did hang out with his  Holton cousins for Easter and had a great time too.

This week I have been with all my crazy 4-H friends at our Spring meeting. This year we ventured to Garden City, Kansas. This town has changed a lot since I was in High School and I've had a great time. It helps when you are with a fun group of people! It has been fun visiting away from home, but I'm ready to cuddle with my dog!

Chick Days

Twice a year our office hatches chicken eggs at the same time our schools do that participate in our chick embryology program. We don't keep the chicks long so the boys do not get to interact with them every year. This year our office is holding on to them for our From Farm To You program. So this weekend we got to play chicken keepers.

They are still small and fluffy so the boys loved them. They wanted to keep them and I had to remind them that Chickens are not as cute. They also got a little life lesson when one chick did not make it from Saturday to Sunday. He couldn't use his legs right after he hatched on Friday and was very weak. The boys talked about making him new legs or rushing him to the vet. I said we can't do that and let's just hope he passes quickly.

Never know what a day in the life of an Extension Agent will bring. And it involves the whole family!

An Alberto Milestone!

On Friday Alex lost his first tooth! It has been wiggling for awhile, I've never seen him so happy. I just poked my head into his after school program because I had to drop something off at the school. Alex ran over to me and almost knocked me over! "I LOST MY TOOTH MOM!" It was great and I don't want to ever forget it. :-)

Today I ran the Rock the Parkway 5K! I had signed up for the half marathon in November. Well that was ambitious, AND when I got an e-mail two weeks ago about how to change your registration I considered it fate. I had a much better time running 3 miles happily than run/walking/limping 13.1 miles. I will try the Half again. It just wasn't for me today.
Official Stats I placed 487th out of 1722, I was 34th of 153 Women 35-39 and my time was a respectable 31:06.

This is pure joy!

If you want the cash, you gotta write a letter!
It was a great race morning. It wasn't that cold and I had the best cheering section!

Rembrandt and Jefferson drove me, cheered me as I finished and bought me lunch!
Best 5k ever!

Grandma Rosie is Home!

Yay! The Manor is a lot happier this week. Grandma Rosie is in her Meerpohl rotation of the year. We have her until July! Yay!

She has been busy her first week here. She has been playing in the yard and cleaning the garage. She is making a mess, but having fun doing it! The boys are also so happy not to have to be drug to my work stuff for awhile. I think they were at the park every day this week after school. Purl is getting used to being out of her kennel all day too. We are all living our best life.

The boys went to dad's this afternoon so mom and I went to the Governor's mansion trail. She walked and I ran. It was great having some mom daughter time!

On Friday we were watching a show and a girl dyed her hair bright purple. Alex said, "I want to do that, but blue!" I thought it might be cool since his hair is light enough to do it. So today we went to Wal-Mart and got some color. He was so happy! Too bad it didn't really work. He got gray hair, hmmmmmm. He wasn't too sad about it, at least we tried!

Post run/walk selfie!
